Confined vacuum resonances as artificial atoms with tunable lifetime

Experimental study of the lifetime of electrons residing in states that are situated in the vacuum between STM tip and sample. The states are confined in the horizontal directions by means of atomic manipulation.

Free coherent evolution of a coupled atomic spin system initialized by electron scattering

Demonstration of a new technique combining ESR-STM and electric pump-probe spectroscopy, enabling the detection of coherent spin dynamics. We use the technique to show the free flip-flop evolution of two exchange-coupled Ti atoms.

Remote detection and recording of atomic-scale spin dynamics

Presentation of a sensor device built of only 11 Fe atoms that can detect the presence of a spin wave traveling away from the STM probe tip. The spin wave information is stored in the device for later readout.

Imaging of spin waves in atomically designed nano magnets
